We’re committed to a fair and transparent recruitment process for every role, and whilst the process may vary slightly from role to role, it follows the basic structure outlined below:

Once you’ve found your ideal role at Lion, take some time out to prepare. This is the first opportunity for you to show us why we should have you on our team – so tell us about your strengths, what you like to do and what motivates you. Keep in mind our core purpose and the types of achievements and behaviours our business values.
Try to keep your application professional, concise, and targeted to the role you’re applying for, and remember to proof read every document (don’t just rely on your computer spell check!).

A good cover letter should state which position you are applying for, why you’re applying and why you think you’re suitable. The cover letter shouldn’t summarise or repeat your CV; it should be tailored to the role, addressing the key selection criteria with your experiences and behaviours. This is a great opportunity to sell yourself!
The ideal CV is one that is tailored to fit the role you’re applying for. Try to limit it to a few pages and ensure it’s easy to read, honest and accurate. If you had a break in your career, let us know why, so there are no unexplained gaps.
Your CV might include:
|Personal details:||Up front and in bold, so we know how to contact you! Include your name, home address, phone numbers, email address, nationality and (if applicable) visa status.|
|Career objective:||This is optional, but if you’d like to include this, make sure it’s relevant to the role you are applying for.|
|Education:||Details of any qualifications, including the institution and year attained.|
|Personal associations:||Any relevant memberships, i.e. Australian Institute of Management, CPA Australia, Dairy Industry Association etc.|
|Employment overview:||This gives us a chance to see your career at a glance.|
|Employment history:||This section will form the bulk of your CV. Start with your most recent job first, and outline all relevant positions in reverse chronological order. It’s a good idea to include a short overview of the company, your job title and dates of employment, as well as your key responsibilities and achievements.|
|Additional skills and training:||This section may include training courses and workshops you’ve attended, computer skills, languages etc.|
|Interests:||Remember, we want to know whether you’ll be a good fit for our team, so help us get to know you as a person!|
|Referees:||We will only contact your referees with your permission, but you should include your past employer, and his/her contact details. It’s a good idea to advise your referees that they may be contacted.|
You’ve been invited to interview – congratulations! We know this can be a nerve wracking experience, but keep in mind the purpose of the interview stage is not only for us to find out more about you, but for you to find out more about us and the position you’ve applied for. Here are some tips on how best to prepare:
|Research, research, research:||Look at our website, read the newspaper and research other sources of information, so you can learn more about who we are and what we do.|
|Be on time:||If you are running late please contact the interviewer as soon as possible.|
|First impressions count:||Unless otherwise indicated, please dress formally according to the position you have applied for. How you dress often indicates how serious you are about the job and yourself. It’s also important to maintain good eye contact with the interviewers.|
|Be prepared:||Your interview will likely consist of behavioural-based questions, which require you to give examples of prior experience including the situation, the action you took, the outcome and what you learnt, as well as questions that probe your functional or technical skills. We will be looking for specifics, so take time to prepare for these questions by looking over your CV and refreshing your memory about your work history and situations that you might like to draw upon. Be prepared to discuss your strengths and achievements, but just as importantly, your areas for development – we all have them, so don’t be afraid to discuss them!|
|Practice makes perfect:||You might like to practice by writing your examples down, answering questions out loud or practicing a few questions with a friend.|
|Question time:||There will be time at the end of the interview for you to ask us any questions and get to know more about us, so make sure you consider these in advance.|
We know interviews can be stressful – remember, we’ve been there too! Just take some time to relax beforehand, arrive in plenty of time and prepare as much as possible. And remember the interview is a two-way process; it’s just as important for you to feel comfortable about our business and the role you’re looking to take on.
Depending on the role you’re going for, we may use a range of challenging assessments to establish your strengths and areas for development. In some cases, this may include half or full day assessment centres. Where appropriate, we will provide you with relevant practice material in advance, to give you time to prepare and be the best you can be.
